Mandaadi drops viewers into the salt-soaked world of traditional sailboat racing along the Tamil Nadu coast, where the title refers to the captain who leads a fishing team across a punishing stretch of open sea. Soori plays Kaali, a fisherman whose knowledge of the waters becomes his greatest weapon when he steps into the annual race, leading a small crew against a fierce rival team headed by Suhas’s Sattapuli. What unfolds is a story of rivalry, redemption, and survival, where every wave, wind shift, and decision at sea can make or break a man’s pride.
Directed by Mathimaran Pugazhendhi and backed by creative producer Vetrimaaran, the film was shot largely on real waters off the Ramanathapuram coast, and that rawness shows in every action sequence. Music and background score come from G. V. Prakash Kumar, while Mahima Nambiar and Sathyaraj add emotional weight to the ensemble. Marking Suhas’s Tamil debut and Soori’s biggest lead outing so far, Mandaadi became a major box office success and is now streaming on Netflix in Tamil, with dubbed versions in Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.
